Product Manager - Data Solutions
Schibsted Marketing Services (SMS) is Schibsted´s Nordic advertising organization, representing some of the strongest brands across Norway and Sweden - like VG, FINN, Aftonbladet, SvD and Blocket.
Advertising plays a central role in funding independent news media, and every day the people at Schibsted Marketing Services work hard to strengthen Schibsted´s position in the advertising markets we operate.
As a product manager for data solutions you will manage the product development for two teams based in Krakow, one data engineering (9 people) and one analytics/data science team (6 people). You will report to the director of ad data capabilities and work closely with our data portfolio team in Norway and Sweden.
The data solution teams will deliver leading targeting and reporting capabilities, a necessity for Schibsted to succeed in the advertising market.
The solutions are powered by data from the billions of advertising impressions Schibsted generates each month as well as data about the millions of people using our services each day. Based on available data we define and calculate relevant metrics for our advertisers, we integrate with vendors and customers and provide targeting datasets for our advertising delivery systems. You and the teams will deliver the models and pipelines to convert the data we import into data outputs used by our customer facing applications.
We believe in getting the right job done and using the right tool for the job. We use a wide range of statistical approaches, and look to selectively apply machine learning where it adds value.
What do you do?
The product manager for data solutions is responsible for managing product development of all advertising data flows. You define the roadmap, take the lead in defining the approaches used, manage the product development cycle and coordinate with stakeholders of the engineering and analytics team.
Together with the analytics team the product manager for data solutions will define the approach to metrics calculation and segmentation logic, and have the full product ownership of all calculations, integration and segmentation logic. Stakeholders' products and processes have a significant influence on the approaches used and working well with a wide range of stakeholders and understanding their needs is important to the role.
The end users of the data solutions are advertisers and their agencies. As the product manager for data solution you need to understand the end users needs, both operational needs and business objectives, but also the technical and legal ecosystem where data is collected as well as how the dynamics of the advertising industry influence the perception of our metrics and targeting. In addition you need to understand our sales process and how sales interact with our tools. To help you with this you will work closely with the data portfolio team, which manages the business operations of your team's effort, and product managers of our customer facing applications.
The work our teams deliver is unique and often at the forefront of our industry. We expect you to be a spokesperson for this and participate as a subject matter expert at industry events and high profile “go to market” processes. We believe that by being visible you will also gain insights that will give you a good understanding of the market, and help you deliver on a good product market fit.
Competency requirements:
- Degree level qualification in business, mathematics, statistics or technology, or equivalent experience.
- Several years of experience within product management or analyst role or equivalent.
Valued skills and experience:
- Experience from product management with data pipelines and modelling on large datasets
- High level understanding of relevant cloud and big data technologies
- Experience from working with imperfect data
- Experience from media or advertising industry
