We are looking for a technical architect for our Cybernetics & Robotics line. Laerdal has embarked on a journey to build our future products on platform technology, to be quicker to market with new products and deliver more modular products. To achieve this, we need to strengthen our team with creative and multidisciplinary product developers that can see solutions to practical problems and help integrate firmware, electronics, and mechanics.

About the role

The role of the technical architects is to direct development of our modularization effort, by establishing modules, interfaces, and internal standards.

A Cybernetics & Robotics engineer is a multidisciplinary person that can use a broad set of skills to see solutions in the fields of electronics, firmware, and mechanics to solve a concrete problem within product development. Participating in the early prototyping phase and integrating in the development phase.

From our makerspaces we work close with our users and do rapid prototyping to test hypothesis around user needs. Our products are complex electro-mechanical systems, based on cutting edge technology, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what our products can accomplish to help saving more lives. It’s challenging to build a human body, but we love a good challenge.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Digital and physical ‘hands-on’ fabrication/development of prototypes, mock-ups, concept models and pilot builds. Integrate with other disciplines ensuring that output satisfies requirements.
  • Participate in early product conceptualisation, mapping with technical opportunities and constraints.
  • Provide technical leadership, communicating product direction in a clear manner.
  • Manage product requirements, defining specifications and regulatory compliance.
  • Problem solving help and assistance to manufacturing, services, suppliers, and users.
  • Be proactive and be up to date on new technology and see opportunities in how we can harness it.
  • Last but not least, be a multidisciplinary development resource – Helping to develop our products.


About you

You have a relevant degree in the domains of science and engineering and 5+ years of industry experience. In addition, you have:

  • Experience with product development on hardware products.
  • Broad interest in the process of product development, investing yourself in everything from materials to firmware.
  • Practical and hands-on skills
  • An empirical and analytical mindset
  • Great leadership skills - guiding technical teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and a strategic focus and mindset.
  • Very good collaboration and social skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
