Gard is looking for a Data Engineer to strengthen our Analytics department.

The Analytics team creates actionable insight from data for various applications. Decision-making, assessing risk, and preventing losses to name a few. As a team continuously expanding the sources and types of data we work with, we are now looking for a Data Engineer that can help us increase our momentum.

We have recently acquired detailed navigation data for the World’s merchant fleet that we believe can significantly lift our analytics capabilities. We are currently refining this data for analytics purposes. This project, along with other initiatives, have created a need to strengthen our team.

The right candidate for this position will work together with team members with backgrounds from finance, business, computer science and actuarial science and cooperate with a large network of Gard domain experts in different fields like maritime law, naval engineering, environmental science, and many others.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and extend feature engineering pipelines for historic and live data.

  • Solve big data problems using distributed computing

  • Help ensure that data validation checks and documentation is a continued priority.

  • Explore new data sources via third parties or new sources (sensor data, text mining, etc.).

  • Together with team members, build an effective analytics team and contribute towards strengthening the data culture in the wider organization.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or related fields or certifications in data engineering. Recent graduates or students about to graduate are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Experience with a dynamic programming language such as R/Python.

  • Familiarity with SQL and version control systems such as Git are beneficial, but not required.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team.

  • Eagerness to develop by learning new skills and methods.

Your ability to manage daily tasks combined with a strategic mindset is crucial for your success in this position.

The role will be based in Arendal or Oslo.
