At Morrow Batteries our ambition is to develop and manufacture the world’s most cost-effective and sustainable battery cells. Our vision is to enable and accelerate the green energy transition through the production of sustainable batteries

We aren’t merely making products; we are looking to revolutionize the sustainable battery industry and develop the next generation of battery cell technology. We are keen to promote our mission, passion, and values both to our team within and to the world outside.

There is now a new position available for a Research Scientist with experience in Battery Modelling & Simulation which is part of the Testing team in our pioneering Research and Development function based in Arendal, Norway. Here you will provide crucial support to the team, developing electro-thermal battery models to support the product design strategy and to help achieve customer objectives.

The successful Research Scientist will become part of a highly collaborative, dedicated and skilled team, each with their own key competence to learn from. Combined with Morrows' rapid growth we can offer a work environment with energy, continued development and the technologies to build the batteries of the future.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Create Multiphysics-based and data-driven models for Morrow’s lithium-ion batteries.
  • To accurately anticipate cell behaviour, such as rate performance, life deterioration, calendar ageing, electrochemical and thermal reactions, and safety-related behaviour.
  • Together with the testing team, create and carry out designs of experiments (DOE) to gather enough information to develop, validate, and test battery models.
  • Development of battery estimation models and algorithms for SOC, SOH, impedance, and performance limitations under certain operating conditions.
  • Work on developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining your model with cross-functional teams.
  • Design Li-ion battery cells for a variety of applications.
  • Assist in choosing the appropriate chemistry and accompanying design in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Create test plans, suggest experiment designs, and work with a rigorous deadline.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant area (Electrochemistry, Mechanical, Automotive, or other)

  • Experience in battery modelling and simulation, model correlation & validation against test data

  • Simulation experience in GT-Suite or similar software

  • Excellent understanding of Li-ion battery technology & chemistry

Specific Skills/Personal Qualifications

  • Self-starter with the capacity to operate under high-level instruction
  • Effective communication of technical information
  • Capable to work across various projects and environments
  • A positive, adaptable, and open-minded attitude

  • Industrial experience is a plus.
