Statkraft’s International Trainee Programme is a great introduction into working life. You will spend 16-months learning and developing yourself alongside other graduates and start your career in renewables. The programme consists of three job rotations across the company, of which at least one will be abroad. As a trainee, you will participate in various professional development courses and gatherings to acquire new skills and share experiences. You will also get the opportunity to apply for a seat on our CEO-led Future Board initiative – an advisory board made up of trainees and young professionals at Statkraft.
Job Description
What will you do?
From helping to run advanced renewable power plants, developing the technologies that power EV charging infrastructures, to supporting our business solutions and corporate functions. With Statkraft, you’ll be working and collaborating alongside other technology and digital experts to innovate, maintain and provide the world with renewable energy.
Trainee, Continental Asset Optimization & Cross Border, Dusseldorf, Germany
The Continental Energy Management Team is active in the majority of the European markets including the UK. The team’s main responsibilities are the short-term optimization of Statkraft’s own power plants, providing market access and balancing services for large scale wind and solar portfolios as well as speculative trading within the short-term and Intraday time horizon. As trainee in the Continental Asset Optimization & Cross Border you’ll:
- Gain a detailed understanding of short-term power markets.
- Provide analysis and decision support to the optimization of the power production from Statkraft's own assets in Germany, Turkey, Switzerland and Albania as well as the production of Statkraft's customers in different European countries with bidding on the national spot exchanges as well as offering ancillary services to the different TSOs.
- Identify profitable electricity trading strategies across national borders via cross border trading by arbitraging on price differences.
Trainee, Wind & Solar, Düsseldorf, Germany
The German wind and solar team acquires, develops, and realizes wind and utility-scale solar projects, both in the EEG support mechanism as well as on merchant basis. The team was established in 2020. The team has grown to more than 20 people up till today and will continue to grow in 2023 and beyond. Also, the project pipeline has been expanding strongly, and in October last year we took over 39 operating wind farms from Breeze Three Energy. These assets need to be managed as they are approaching the end of their regular lifetime. Our ambition is to repower as many of these sites as possible! As trainee in Wind & Solar Germany, you’ll:
- Work on wind and solar projects throughout all stages of the project development phases, from project acquisition to permitting to construction and commissioning
- Learn how to evaluate Renewable energy projects to prepare them for the different project decisions and the final investment decision
- Communicate with important stakeholders such as landowners, municipalities, equipment manufacturers and others

Qualifications
We need coming graduates who are motivated to be part of the green transition and welcome individuals from different backgrounds that want to help change the world with us. Statkraft is looking for trainees with the essential skills to future-proof our business and renewable energy solutions that includes:
- Master’s degree in science, typically within the natural sciences, energy engineering, business, economics or other relevant fields
- Interest in the renewable energy industry
- Excellent analytical capacity and problem-solving skills
- Ability to quickly understand and process information as well as adapt quickly to new situations
- No more than one year of work experience post education (excluding internships/part-time jobs)
- Self-driven, commercial thinker and a positive team player
- Fluency in English is required, knowledge of other European languages is an advantage
