Engasjement
The Hydrogen Technology Department at IFE now has a vacant 2 year postdoctoral fellowship on the topic: Modelling and Experimental Validation of Low Temperature Fuel Cell (PEMFC) Systems for Maritime Applications.

Significant reduction of the emissions can be achieved by introducing alternative, environmentally friendly fuels in operation of the maritime fleet. Hydrogen produced with zero emissions can be an alternative solution for several maritime applications. The postdoc-position will an integral part of the research center FME MoZEES (www.mozees.no), which is hosted by IFE and funded by the Research Council of Norway and several Industrial Partners. The postdoc-project will focus on research and development of competence, methods, and technology for the use of hydrogen and fuel cells in the maritime.

Work tasks

The 2-year project will include both experiments on fuel cell stacks and systems, analysis of operational data provided by maritime industry partners, and PEM fuel cell system modelling. A key objective with the planned research will be to validate advanced fuel cell system models (e.g., MatLab Simulink and EES) with the operation of actual fuel cells systems (e.g., FC Systems Laboratory at IFE). The development of new experimental methods (e.g., advanced EIS) for monitoring of fuel cell degradation based on variations in load profiles will also be part of the work.  In summary, the work will be both theoretical and experimental, and a large part of the postdoc will be performed in IFE’s national fuel cell and hydrogen system laboratory at Kjeller.

Qualifications

Candidates applying for this position should have a formal background in electrochemistry, power management, power electronics, and/or system controls. In addition, it will be important to have basic programming and modelling skills. Candidates with some knowledge and experience with testing of electrochemical systems (e.g., batteries and fuel cells) will be preferred.

High motivation and good analytical and communication skills (oral and written) will be emphasized in the employment process. The applicants must have a background corresponding to a PhD in the relevant field.

We offer

  • Exciting and challenging research tasks.
  • Participation in the development of hydrogen technology.
  • Participation in internationally leading research activities.
  • Social benefits including pension, life insurance and accident insurance.
  • Competitive salary, according to agreement.
  • Collaboration with highly motivated and creative people within a well-integrated and social research department.
We place great emphasis on your personal suitability for the position. IFE is subject to the National Security Act, and the candidate must be able to pass a background check and must be able to obtain security clearance and authorization.
