Postdoc/researcher in epigenetic analyses of esophageal cancer
At the Department of Molecular Oncology, Institute for Cancer Research, Radium Hospital, Oslo University Hospital we have a three year vacant full time position as a postdoc or alternatively a researcher position, depending on the qualifications.

Research at the Department focuses on improving diagnostic, stratification and treatment of gastro-intestinal and urological cancers. The candidate will be working in the Epigenetics group (Lind lab) where various technologies, including omics platforms and digital PCR, have been established to study DNA methylation in various cancer types. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, including molecular biologists, computational scientists, engineers and clinicians. You will also benefit from a stimulating scientific environment at our Department and as part of the Norwegian Esophageal Cancer Consortium, which provides a nationwide collaborative platform for developing cutting edge translational research.

Oslo University Hospital is a workplace with great diversity. We believe this is absolutely crucial to solving the tasks required of us. We therefore want this diversity to be reflected among the applicants for our positions and encourage everyone to apply regardless of who you are and what background you have.

Job description

To strengthen our research team, we are looking for a skilled and highly motivated postdoc/research scientist with significant experience in cancer biology.  Experience within cancer epigenetics will be an advantage, but training within this field can be offered to the eligible candidate. Basic experience with computational biology is welcomed but not required. The main focus for the position will be molecular analyses of esophageal cancer, including identifying novel biomarkers for improved management of esophageal cancer patients. Gaining and maintaining an overview of the research field will also be an important task. The main focus will be on epigenetic biomarkers for early detection and prediction of treatment response. The methylome sequencing data that will form the basis for the biomarker identification is currently being generated.

The candidate will also be expected to participate broadly in core academic activities at the Department, including authoring publications in peer reviewed journals.

  • Applicants must hold a PhD degree within molecular biology or medicine, alternatively in computational biology, bioinformatics or a closely related discipline.
  • A general background in cancer biology is required, preferably within molecular cancer biology
Ability to generate, analyze, interpret and summarize molecular data – preferably DNA methylation data.
  • Ability to interpret and summarize large scale data (omics) and proficiency with bioinformatics tools and methods for data analysis is an advantage, but not a requirement
