reMarkable is growing rapidly and so is our need for data and insight. For this reason we have just embarked on an existing journey to develop a world class data and insight capability. We are currently implementing a target state for Data & Insight that is heavily inspired by the Data Mesh paradigm of distributed data ownership, and are leveraging a modern tech stack based on a combination of GCP and open source tools (BigQuery, Terraform, dbt, etc.) to enable this. By joining reMarkable as a Data & Insight professional you will be given the opportunity to play a key part in establishing a leading Data & Insight community based on modern principals in one of Norway's most exciting companies.

About the role

As a Data Engineer, you will actively contribute to the development of the Data & Insights domain, and be responsible for creating insight helping reMarkable plan for the future and switch from reactive to proactive in the decision making process. Our Data Engineers will develop and deploy data pipelines that leverage advanced business logic and result in complex data products on behalf of the respective business area. You will also play a vital role in developing the self-serving capability for Data & Insight. We are looking for several Data Engineers with differing seniority and competency, that will work with different business areas within reMarkable.

Main areas of responsibility are:

  • Work closely with our Head of Data & Insight, our Data Platform Lead and our Insight leads for the different business functions

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Analysts and Architects on different projects

  • Specify business logic required for data refinement in collaboration with business users

  • Map new data sources and build connectors and data pipelines

  • Implementing business logic in SQL (wrapped by dbt)

  • Ensure good trade-offs and compliance with the legal requirements, e.g. GDPR

  • Develop Looker models/self-service capabilities

  • Manage and monitor the portfolio of developed data products

  • Continuously challenge the centralized data platform setup

  • Support the development of best practices for data pipelining and data product management

Who are you?

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar degree. Master’s degree would be a strong advantage

  • You have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience as a Data Engineer

  • You have deep understanding of the Data & Insights domain

  • You have solid Data Engineering skills and high Python and SQL literacy

  • You are familiar with the Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery and dbt. Experience with Looker is a plus

  • You have experience with orchestration frameworks like Airflow/Prefect

  • You have the ability to communicate and cooperate with business users

  • You have high interest and willingness to understand the business domain

  • You quickly understand complex issues and come up with sound and rational judgments

  • You are curious, analytical and structured

  • You deliver in a timely manner

  • You are a teamplayer across teams and domains

  • Hands-on experience with Data Mesh is also a plus
