At Morrow Batteries our ambition is to develop and manufacture the world’s most cost-effective and sustainable battery cells. Our vision is to enable and accelerate the green energy transition through the production of sustainable batteries.
We are seeking a motivated Engineer, Senior Engineer or Chief Engineer (depending on experience and responsibilities) with drive to play a critical role in realizing our goals and vision.
We are currently building out our Morrow Industrialization Centre (MIC) and a Gigafactory in Arendal (Norway). As part of the MIC, we will build a dedicated facility for the development, scale up and manufacturing of battery active materials at pilot scale (AMP).
The AMP will be designed for a total capacity of 200 ton per year including both cathode and anode materials (oxide-based). You will be part of the team in charge of specifying, designing, building, commissioning, and operating the AMP facility.
This is a great opportunity to shape the process from early days, whilst making a significant contribution to our sustainable future. You will be based in our Arendal office.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Specify process equipment for the manufacturing of cathode and anode active materials (oxides)
- Design AMP facility: develop mass and energy balance, develop PFD and P&IDs, develop operating and control philosophies, perform process simulations
- Lead and participate in the project delivery of the AMP facility, from conceptual design to operation, including conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, start up and operation
- Lead and participate on safety reviews of the AMP
- Lead and participate on design reviews with internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare detailed plan and participate during the commissioning and operation of the AMP facility
Required background:
- Process/Chemical engineer BE or Msc
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as Process/Chemical Engineer, working in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry
- Previous experience in the manufacturing of active materials for the battery industry is an advantage but not a requirement
- Preferable experience in project delivery or EPC from conceptual design to operation, including FEED, detailed design, construction, and commissioning
- Able to perform detailed engineering calculations and simulations
- Strong experience on creating P&IDs, PFDs, control, and operating philosophies for chemical plants
- Solid experience in process safety and safety reviews (LOPA, HAZOP, Management of change etc.)
PERSONAL QUALITIES
The person we are looking for has solid and practical experience as process engineer in the chemical industry. Experience from working in an international company is an advantage, and you thrive with challenges.
This position operates in a multicultural and fast paced start-up environment. A person in this position must interact effectively throughout the organization to achieve objectives. This position requires a high level of autonomy whilst retaining the ability to work in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate is structured and has a can-do attitude.
