Main roles and responsibilities:

  • To lead implementation of the Embassy’s climate change strategy for Norway. This will require you to work closely with our Head of Prosperity, with our Science and Innovation Officer and with economic, political, prosperity, trade and communications colleagues. You role will include policy and project delivery aligned with Embassy objectives that supports the transition to net-zero, resilience & adaptation, clean growth, renewable energy, nature-based solutions, and green finance. You will need to build a network of working level contacts in national and local governments across Norway, in business, civil society and youth groups in support of climate and energy activity.
  • To support Embassy and Whitehall colleagues on energy policy engagement with Norway, both through delivering areas of overlap with the climate change strategy and through ad hoc support for the Head of Prosperity on energy issues. 
  • To work with a network of colleagues in the Nordic Baltic countries on regional climate change initiatives. This will require identification of shared opportunities, co-ordination of activity and management of resources across the network and reporting on progress to London.
  • To support Ministerial and official visits from the UK related to climate and energy events in Norway. This could include organising visit agendas and supporting events as required 
  • To make a positive corporate contribution to Embassy life, supporting other teams when they are under pressure, taking on a crisis role, and participating in Embassy-wide work and events. 


Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Fluency both oral and written at a C1 level in English and Norwegian
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working for an organisation in a relevant field, for example, working for/with national or regional government, a company, international organizations or agencies, or equivalent expertise in climate change particularly in Norway
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team.
  • Able to pass Embassy security clearance vetting


Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Experience of working in an international environment;
  • Public/private sector experience; excellent relationship-building skills;
  • Well-developed analytical skills and the ability to clearly communicate them to different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of international climate change policy, with relevant experience including from university or previous professional work experience.
  • Experience of managing diverse and senior level relationships.
  • Knowledge or experience of project management and / or communications work.

This is a full-time fixed-term position, five working days (currently 35 hours net) per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.

Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy Oslo are subject to terms and conditions of service in accordance with Norwegian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Norway and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
