Senior Scientist

As part of the growing activities at NILU in the Fram Centre in Tromsø, NILU is now seeking an experienced scientist to work on national and international projects related to man-made chemicals of current use and environmental pollution with emphasis on compounds of emerging concern.

Nature of the position:

NILU offers a permanent position for an experienced scientist keen to take on the challenge of acquiring and managing multidisciplinary research projects.

NILU in Tromsø is located in the Fram Centre and takes active part in the scientific collaborations on environmental issues in the Arctic. NILU has modern laboratories with clean-room facilities and an extensive and advanced instrument park suitable for studies addressing environmental pollution in pristine environments. Organic contaminants and plastic pollutants are amongst the key research topics of NILU in the centre.

We are looking for a candidate who can use his or her extensive scientific network and track record to strengthen the position of NILU as a renowned research institute and leading analytical trace laboratory. You will use your expertise to set up research projects for Norwegian and international partners, in the field of trace analytical studies and the identification of unknown hazardous substances. Broad chemical profiling techniques (including data analysis and modelling) are emphasised. You will make substantial contributions to the innovation of the environmental chemistry research as a whole and to the acquisition of new research projects for NILU.

• PhD in a relevant field (such as Environmental chemistry, Organic chemistry, Physical Chemistry or Analytical chemistry) and a demonstrably broad track record
• At least three years' relevant experience
• Experience in evaluation of environmental data, trace analysis and assessments
• Profound insight into LC-, GC- and HRMS techniques
• Preferable insight into methods and tools to determine exposure to and/or effects/risk of organic pollutants
• Successful both in acquisition and in the implementation of projects
• True networker and team player
• Language skills: Good knowledge of the English language (written and oral) is required. It is not an absolute requirement that candidates speak and write Norwegian, but we recommend that the chosen person focuses on learning the native language (spoken and written) when starting the position.

The position is permanent and located at NILUs office in the new Fram Centre in Tromsø, a growing and modern research complex in the city centre of Tromsø.
