Senior Researcher in LCA/ Sustainability Assessment/ the Circular Economy

Job description

The Researcher is expected to work closely together with other researchers at NORSUS but should also be capable of independently developing and implementing his/her own ideas within the scope of NORSUS’ strategy of contributing to sustainable societal development and taking a leading role in LCA in Europe.

The position involves developing projects, seeking funding, contributing to colleagues’ projects and leading projects, data acquisition and management, popular and scientific publishing, and reporting. It also involves supporting other colleagues and contributing to a good work environment and scientific success of the institute as such.

Requirements and competence

• A PhD in a suitable field, such as environmental science, industrial ecology, circular economy, nature management, etc. with focus on LCA or sustainability assessment.
• Experience with using LCA software, or coding LCA modelling.
• Ideally have a good understanding of one or more industrial sectors, to grasp the industry challenges that are relevant to address through LCA based research, for instance within Agriculture and food (including food waste), Waste/Biogas, Transport and infrastructure, Packaging or Construction.
• Skills in acquiring new research projects and being able to develop independently his/her field of research. 
• Skills and experience in efficiently publishing research results.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Good written and oral communication skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage. Successful candidates without such skills will be expected to attain language level B2 within two years after employment.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis and/or a relevant programming language (e.g. Python (Pandas, Numpy, Brightway)) will be an advantage.
