About the position

The Centre for Digital Life Norway has a vacancy for a senior advisor for Responsible research and innovation (RRI).

The Centre for Digital Life Norway (DLN) is a national centre for biotechnology research, training, and innovation, financed by the Research Council of Norway. DLN represents a new and pioneering approach towards biotechnology that goes beyond traditional disciplines. The centre aims to create economic, societal, and environmental value for Norway from biotechnology research and innovation that is both responsible and sustainable. The centre and its affiliated Digital Life Norway Research School promote career development in research and innovation, to train young scientists who will shape the future of biotechnology.

For the centre's second funding period (DLN 2.0) (2021-2026), DLN has seven partner institutions (UiO, UiB, NTNU, NMBU, UiT, SINTEF, and OUS) and hosts a network of affiliated biotechnology projects from across Norway. Read more about the centre and DLN research projects at http://www.digitallifenorway.org

The centre is led by competence hub that includes staff in the Operational Management Team (OMT) based at NTNU, UiO, and UiB; scientific director, and an Expert Task Force (ETF) with professors/senior researchers from the seven partner institutions. As senior advisor for RRI, you will work closely with the current RRI senior advisor and collaborate with the entire OMT, whose core competence areas focus on data & models, innovation & industry, education & researcher training, communication & internationalization, and responsible research & innovation (RRI).

RRI's mandate is to be responsive to societal needs, challenges and values. Developing biotechnology research that is responsive to societal challenges requires a solid understanding of the technical, political and economic aspects. An RRI framework has been established in DLN and is an important basis for operational and strategic development. The senior advisor for RRI will work to support the embedding of the principle of Responsible Research and Innovation into transdisciplinary biotech research. Activities will emphasize anticipation, reflection and engagement with scientists, innovators, and other stakeholders. This also involves training the next generation of scientists in order to make transdisciplinary convergence the norm for biotechnology projects in Norway. This role will be diverse and challenging and offer real opportunities to influence DLN strategy and outcomes. Read more about our RRI approach and services here: https://www.digitallifenorway.org/services/rri/

The role is available in a 100% position for 2 years from start date, with possible extension based on funding. Start date is available as early as possible.
