Norwegian Church Aid has made environmental sustainability of operations and programming a strategic priority.  We recently signed the Climate and Environment Charter for humanitarian organizations and have developed our own Climate and Environment Policy, with the aim of reducing NCA’s carbon footprint.

We are now looking for a proactive and experienced person to drive the integration of environmental sustainability and climate resilience in NCA’s long-term and humanitarian interventions. You will collaborate closely with other technical advisors on programmes such as Climate-resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment and Faith Based Climate Action. You will also be a part of the cross-departmental Sustainable NCA working group, and cooperate and build capacity among NCA colleagues around the world.

This is a permanent position, based at NCA's Head Office in Oslo, in the Program Quality team in the division for Partnerships and Strategic Solutions (PASS). You will be part of a multicultural work environment with highly competent and motivated colleagues.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive the implementation of NCA’s environmental sustainability standard and Climate Charter commitments in programming
  • Develop systems, methods, tools, and actions plans for environmental sustainability, climate resilience and disaster risk reduction (DRR)
  • Support NCA’s country offices on long-term programmes and humanitarian interventions on standards, solutions, requirements, and deliverables (carbon footprint/environment impact assessments, mapping of environment and climate risks, methodology/technology for resilience and sustainability)
  • Capacity development and competence building of head office and country office staff
  • Identify and facilitate relevant funding opportunities and strategic partnerships for NCA
  • Global-level focal point for climate resilience and environmental sustainability in programming
  • Contribute towards internal/external communication and advocacy, and represent NCA in external forums

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree  within life sciences agroecology, environmental studies, global development studiers or equivalent
  • Work experience in the humanitarian and/or development sector. Experience with community-based programming is an advantage.
  • Relevant work experience may replace educational requirements 
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written. Fluency with other languages, especially French and/or Arabic, is an advantage

  • Respectful and constructive communicator with excellent cooperation skills.
  • Structured, well organized and self-driven
  • Ability to listen and build trust while at the same time establish a clear direction and motivate others
  • Excellent organisational and teamwork skills, including prioritization, planning and project coordination skills
