Bio-Composite for a more sustainable future

Development of sustainable bio products, based on wood fibre, has been a strong focus at Norske Skog Saugbrugs. One of the most promising products is CEBICO, a composite material of wood fibre (thermomechanical pulp) and plastics (virgin, recycled and/or bio-based) that can be used as a drop-in replacement for traditional plastics in injection moulding and pipe extrusion processes. The CEBICO material is highly suited in industrial, automotive, furniture, logistics, construction, storage, and packaging applications. The material has received significant interest from potential customers and aligns with the increasing environmental focus and regulatory trends seen across Europe and globally.

In December 2021, a demonstration plant with annual production capacity of 300 tonnes was commissioned at Saugbrugs to verify scale-up of the production process. The production capacity enables increased commercialisation (product qualification and certification) and product development (existing and new applications) efforts, with the ambition to make an investment decision for a commercial scale facility during 2022.

To support in realising this ambition, the CEBICO team at Saugbrugs is in the process of identifying an experienced individual that can fill the role as Head of product for CEBICO. This role will report to Hugo Harstad, Director Business Development.

Work tasks:

• Develop new CEBICO formulations and applications in cooperation with R&D and customers
• Identify new product requirements
• Documentation, product registration and certification of the CEBICO portfolio
• Interact with customers and suppliers with regards to product regulatory and compliance solutions, needs, and responses
• Procurement of plastic raw material for production
• Support sales and marketing of CEBICO to customers

Experience:

• Experience with polymer injection moulding and pipe extrusion
• Good understanding of, and network in, the plastics industry
• Good knowledge of plastic and bio-composite product requirements
• Experience in product development with plastics, additives, and composites

• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, ability to build long-term relationships with prospects and customers
• Analytical and curious with ability to understand customer specific needs and apply the most suitable solutions
• Convincing and engaging communicator
• Proactive with high execution power
• Team oriented with great cooperative skills
• Commercial and flexible mind-set

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree within polymer-, materials- or chemical engineering
• Minimum 5 years of experience within plastics industry
• Knowledge and understanding of ESG and circular economy
• Good communication skills in Norwegian and English, orally and in writing
