IT-infrastructure is at the heart of PGS, both offshore and in our offices worldwide. Our enterprise IT team use the latest technologies and work with leading global providers to apply best practices and standards. You will be part of an energetic team of 60 skilled and competent IT professionals.

As Network Engineer you will be instrumental in securing 24/7 data availability across the company and its operation. The role involves regular travel, to provide on-site maintenance and support of business applications across our fleet.

To succeed in this role, you should be competent in installing hardware and software, to support critical business functions. When not servicing our fleet of vessels in the field, you will act as onshore vessel support, and provide network (LAN/WAN) support at our Oslo head office.

A good understanding of networks, ranging from LANs to satellite links will be required, as will familiarity with maintaining and supporting IT systems on ships or other offshore installations.

Our engineers have a career path and evolve into product specialists. We develop our own staff to drive our future technology platforms.

This role will be based in Oslo.

Responsibilities:
  • Configuring and maintaining functional and secure networks that connect offices and enable business-to-business and business-to-client interfaces using LAN, WAN, intranet, and cloud infrastructure technology
  • Maintaining and using network monitoring solutions to ensure proactive methodology and avoiding service disruptions
  • Managing and resolving issues that other support functions have escalated, and proposing network changes to improve delivery of services in our service catalog.

Work tasks:
  • Contribute to the design and maintenance of Cisco/Palo Alto based local and enterprise data networks (WAN, LAN, WLAN)
  • Provide technical support and ongoing maintenance of the company’s IPT systems
  • Maintain and support vessel satellite communications systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network related problems
  • Maintain and use network monitoring solutions to characterize network performance and predict impacts due to network changes
  • Propose network changes to improve delivery of services in our service catalog
  • Work and coordinate activities with third party vendors and suppliers
  • Recommend tools and develop procedures to monitor, analyze and baseline data networks performance as well as applications
  • Extensive traveling to our vessels will be required, both alongside port/yard and when offshore
  • Some travel to other offices will also be required

As our new Vessel Network Engineer, we expect you to ensure a good working relationship with all key stakeholders related to the role; and demonstrate a fluency in English, both orally and written. You will be part of the Infrastructure and Support team, within Enterprise IT (a part of our Technology and Digitalization division).
