Hydro Aluminium Metal a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods and high-purity aluminum with a global production network of around 5,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and in the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminum production is based on renewable energy.
We are seeking a candidate with the drive and creativity to lift the positioning of Hydro Aluminium Metal (AM) as a leader in the transition towards a circular low-carbon society.
The Communication Manager will play an important role in delivering on the business strategy and supporting the continued growth and development of Hydro’s business with a focus on low-carbon and recycled aluminum.
Tasks will include proactive PR and media outreach, project management, media training, crisis communication as well as supporting internal communication activities that create engagement around the business strategy.
The successful candidate will become part of the Communication and Public Affairs team in the Hydro Aluminium Metal business area. The team collaborates closely with Hydro Group Communications and Public Affairs.
Area of Responsibilty
The main responsibility of the Communication manager is to deliver on the overall Aluminium Metal communication strategy by developing and implementing strategic communication activities towards all key stakeholder groups. The successful candidate builds effective internal and external relationships, provides strategic communication advise to management and drives new initiatives and projects.
In this position you will:
- Develop the team’s strategy into structured activity plans for internal and external communication and public relations projects and activities
- Develop compelling messaging and excellent internal, external and digital content, including speeches and press releases, by transforming complex content into engaging stories
- Manage projects on major communication initiatives as well as participate in internal and external communication projects
- Contribute to change management processes in cooperation with relevant resources across the company
- Act as press and media contact and support BU and plant management with proactive and reactive media handling
- Contribute to issue monitoring and mitigation to reduce potential negative impact on Hydro’s reputation
- Contribute to implementing Aluminum Metal’s emergency preparedness policy and routines, including training of managers and spokespersons in cooperation with the Group Communication and Public Affairs team
- Develop, maintain and proactively use internal and external communication & media networks in prioritized markets to support the overall Aluminium Metals communication strategy
Qualifications
- Master’s degree within a relevant discipline
- Minimum 4-6 years’ working experience with at least 3 years working within PR or corporate. communications in an agency, international company or organisation or the public sector.
- Excellent writing skills. Experience with producing targeted content on multiple communication platforms would be an asset.
- Proven project management skills with ability to run projects with tight deadlines and several stakeholders.
- Experience with sustainability work or public affairs on topics related to climate, energy or the circular economy would be an asset.
- Good presentation skills. Advanced Power Point skills would be an asset.
- Experience with photo / video editing and Adobe program suite would be an asset.
- Fluent in English and Norwegian

- Provides strategic communication advise to Aluminium Metal management and runs trainings for people at all different levels of the Hydro organisation.
- Strong and proven drive to manage processes and projects and to deliver results with precision and quality.You are able to work independently as well as a strong team player able to collaborate with many different stakeholders.
Additional information
The position is located in Oslo, Norway. Some travel will be required.
