Applications are invited for a 3-year, fixed term Post-doc position in the Polymers and Composite Materials group (PKM group) at SINTEF Industry (Norway). The position is supported by the innovation project for the industrial sector "Tailoring adhesion (TailAd)" cofounded by the Research council of Norway.

Coatings are multi-layered system consisting of layers with diverse functions. The adhesion properties of the coating, both to the substrate and between the different layers within the coating, is of crucial importance to coating integrity. Migration of liquid phases and species in the coating to the interfaces and subsequent interfacial bonding formation are vital for adhesion. Meanwhile, the migration and distribution of active species (i.e. anti-fouling agents) to the surface of coating endowing it with desired functionality and performance.

The Post-doc will work on utilizing advanced test methods to research and understand the transport mechanism of the active species, based on which the migration and distribution of active species will be understood and mapped. The Post-doc will work under supervision of PKM group leader, Dr. Einar L. Hinrichsen at SINTEF Industry, Oslo, with full support from researchers having expertise in polymer science. The Post-doc will also work closely with researchers from NTNU Nanomechanical lab, to construct a knowledge platform for adhesion and migration behavior of coating, which will enable the prediction of coating performance and optimization of coating formulations.

We are looking for a self-motivated and result oriented person who is able to work both independently and in a team environment.

Essential:

• A PhD within polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, material engineering
• Solid knowledge on polymer chemistry and physics
• Extensive experience in polymer characterization techniques   
• Good communication skills in both written and spoken English  

Desirable:

• Experience in surface property investigation
• Experience with applied research
