This is an exceptional opportunity to join a large public IVF clinic at the national hospital in Norway. The department offers 1700 fresh IVF and ICSI cycles per year, and has produced more than 10 000 babies since it was established in 1984. In addition to standard fresh and thaw cycles, the clinic offers PESA /TESA, donor insemination and IVF, and fertility preservation (oocyte, ovarian tissue, and semen cryopreservation), and time-lapse imaging. Following recent changes in the law regulating IVF (Biotechnology law), the department is also planning to offer egg donation and PGT. The successful candidate will join a staff of 15 embryologists, nine nurses, ten doctors, and five researchers.
The department has an expanding research group with four full time and six part time researchers working on basic science and innovation projects. Projects include work with human oocytes and embryos, as well as animal models. The research group has recently published high impact articles, and has strong Collaborations, both nationally and internationally. We have recently established a clinical and research environment for “Epigenetics and bioethics of human embryonic development”. Embryologists employed in the department have excellent opportunities to participate in research projects.
Duties and responsibilities
The position involves all aspects of clinical IVF treatment including, egg collection, sperm preparation, conventional IVF, ICSI, embryo assessment, embryo transfer, vitrification of oocytes and embryos, as well as andrology and biobanking. Embryologists are also involved in quality assurance / quality control, inventory management, and general tasks associated with running the lab. The position involves weekend shift work (currently every four weeks) and evening work (currently every 12 weeks).
Qualifications
The applicant must have at least a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and at least two years of experience in clinical embryology. A recognised certification in embryology is an advantage. Strong verbal and written English is expected, and successful candidates will be expected to independently enroll on a Norwegian course. The candidate must demonstrate eligibility to work in Norway, for example as an EU / EEA citizen, or with a current valid work permit.

The successful applicant will be highly motivated with a strong focus on both technical skills and academic knowledge. Applicants should have good problem solving and communication skills, be results focused, and be academically engaged.
