The European Wergeland Centre (EWC) is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Officer/Advisor for a 3-year project based position from 1 November 2021. The Project aims particularly at building capacities of educators, NGOs and teacher training institutions in Ukraine to implement democratic reforms in school and early childhood education and care.


The employee will be based in Oslo, and manage one of the project components in cooperation with the Project Manager and project team in Oslo and Ukraine. The component implies working closely with the Ukrainian authorities on policy development, cooperating with local NGOs and providing online and blended courses for teachers with a focus on education for democratic citizenship and human rights, both at the EWC’s e-learning platform and face-to-face.


As a member of the Project team, the employee will also contribute to strengthening newly established Early Childhood and School Section. The Section works internationally focusing on supporting education reforms and changes in everyday teaching and learning practices aiming at democratization of curricula, governance, learning environment, pedagogies, and assessment. The section also implements projects focusing on school and kindergarten development, with an aim to build democratic culture of schools and early childhood education institutions.

 

Tasks/Responsibilities

  • To plan, budget, coordinate and monitor activities for one of the project components of the EWCs’ education project in Ukraine, in a close cooperation with the Project Manager, EWC team in Oslo and in Ukraine and partners. This includes some logistical responsibilities.
  • To prepare necessary reporting documents to be submitted to the donor and internally.
  • To contribute to the project’s strategic development and planning.
  • To liaise with implementing partners in Ukraine, international experts and partner institutions.
  • To contribute to working with donors and exploring new funding opportunities.
  • To represent EWC at external meetings, events, and other project related activities, including delivering presentations/briefings.
  • To contribute to the work of the School and Early Childhood Section.

 

The position will require some international travel. It will report to the Head of Section for Early Childhood and School.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Higher university degree in a related discipline.
  • Good experience in project management (minimum of 3 years), preferably also international.
  • Preferably experience in human rights education and/or citizenship education.
  • Interest for digitalization of learning and education.
  • Preferably professional experience and expertise in online and blended learning projects, in particular for teacher training.
  • Preferably experience of working with Norwegian and international donors.
  • Fluency in English, Ukrainian or Russian is required (oral and written). Knowledge of Norwegian is an asset.
  • Commitment to EWCs’ vision, mission, and values.
  • Valid work permit
