Product Developer

Laerdal Medical is an international market leader in training and therapy products for emergency medicine and critical care. Our portfolio spans from ultra-low-cost simulation solutions for developing countries to high-end life-size patient simulators packed with technology. 

The product developments at Laerdal is a diverse and talented group of people, spread over several sites and with a wide range of engineering competencies (design, electronics, mechanical, materials, firmware, software, and testing). We have substantial prototyping workshops, a 3D printing lab, mechanical tool shop, test center and several maker spaces at your disposal to unleash your creative potential. 

We need more product developers to strengthen our physical technology platform to make the common building blocks for our products. The technology platform provides the technology for the physical products with sensors and mechanics, and a digital solution with cloud connectivity – an IoT like model.  

Who are you?  

You have many years of experience or maybe you recently graduated with a Bachelor or Master’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering or similar. You are passionate about technology and developing products from idea to deployment, and you enjoy working in a vibrant team. You are interested in or have experience working with multi-disciplinary product development of physical and digital products.  

We are looking for:  

Electronics developer 

Work tasks will involve exploring new technology, prototyping, development, and maintenance of electronics.  

Your experience/competence might include some of these: 

• Electronics design: Schematics and PCB layout, circuit board production and sourcing 
• Designs with embedded microcontrollers, like STM32 
• Communication and radio interfaces (CAN, I2C, SPI, USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) 
• Sensors and actuators, power, battery and thermal design and management 
• EMC design and troubleshooting. Testing for regulatory approval 
• Experience in embedded software and/or mechatronics is highly desirable 

Embedded software developer 

You’ll be making embedded software ranging from low-level devices with sensors to Linux systems communicating with a cloud solution. 

Your experience/competence might include some of these: 

• C/C++ development on limited embedded systems, like STM32 and ARM Cortex platforms 
• Embedded Linux systems (Posix, multithreading) and frameworks, like Qt, Boost 
• Cloud and IoT communication 
• SW development tools and methodology, design patterns, issue tracking, source control (git) 
• Communication interfaces (CANopen, I2C, SPI, TCP/IP, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) 
• Test driven development, automated testing, regression testing 

Test and QA engineer 

We are looking for an engineer who can build test and QA systems for continuous integration of embedded systems. The job is focused on software testing, with options for extending test methodology into hardware and device testing. You are passionate about reliability and systematic approaches.  

Your experience/competence might include some of these: 

• Testing of products, either physical or pure software products 
• Test development and test methodology, unit testing, mocking, test automation 
• Understanding software coding and methodology 
• Linux system 
• Programming (C/C++, Python, Bash), microcontroller and embedded systems 
• Hardware and circuit board design
