About the position

CICERO is looking for a researcher to strengthen and expand our research at the interface between the climate and environment effects of greenhouse gases and short-lived climate forcers, and the trade-offs and synergies on various spatial and temporal time scales that need to be made available for the global climate policy process.

Knowledge about climate modelling, scenarios and source attribution techniques is a requirement, as is a good understanding of the current policy context. This includes the Paris Agreement and the global stocktake process, the IPCC and related processes, global temperature targets, net zero emissions and greenhouse gas neutrality, NDCs. Sector specific research is also foreseen, including the aviation and shipping sectors.

The successful candidate will have solid experience in quantitative data analysis and modelling, in addition to strong analytical and programming skills. A strong background in natural science is needed. Further requirements are a documented ability to efficiently translate results into scientific publications, to generate own research ideas, and to write new funding proposals for Norwegian and/or European agencies.

We are seeking a person who can work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, with partners internal and external to CICERO.  The successful candidate be part of a team of natural scientists and interdisciplinary climate researchers and will contribute to developing project ideas.

This is a temporary position for 2 years, with the possibility for extension.

Requirements:
  • PhD within natural sciences
  • Research experience in relevant areas, preferably beyond PhD
  • A good understanding of the climate change challenges and the climate policy landscape
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including experience with data analysis, programming, climate modelling and use of scenarios
  • Experience with writing funding proposals is desirable
  • The ability to speak and write confidently in academic English
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
