The European Wergeland Centre (EWC) aims to strengthen our newly established Section for Civil Society and Teacher Education. The section is responsible for support to democratic development and strengthening human rights through work with education institutions. It provides a range of projects and initiatives aimed at higher education institutions, teacher training centers, NGOs and other key actors to promote democracy, human rights and inclusion in formal and non-formal education. We are now seeking a qualified Senior Advisor in a permanent position to join our international team.  


Tasks/responsibilities:

·        To strengthen EWC programming in education for democratic citizenship, human rights and intercultural education.

·        To contribute to the strategic development of the section, in particular in the field of teacher education.

·        To manage EWCs’ education projects in close cooperation with partners and EWC colleagues.

·        To provide expertise and advice on teacher education (initial teacher education and/or ongoing professional development) to the Council of Europe, education authorities and other key stakeholders in the field.

·        To be responsible for the development of project proposals, in cooperation with key stakeholders including education authorities, NGOs, and relevant EWC staff.

·        To work closely and liaise with donors and explore new funding opportunities.

·        To represent EWC at external meetings, events, and sector relevant groups, including delivering presentations/briefings.

·        The position will require some international travel and will report to the Head of Section for Civil Society and Teacher Education.


Qualifications/requirements:

·        Higher university degree in a related discipline, at master’s level or equivalent.

·        Professional experience and expertise in teacher education, initial and/or in-service teacher education, including international experience (minimum of 8 years).

·        Solid experience in project management, including financial management.

·        Solid experience in human rights education and/or citizenship education.

·        Experience from working with Norwegian and international donors.

·        Experience in conceptualisation and implementation of training courses is an asset.

·        Fluency in English and Norwegian is required (oral and written).

·        Commitment to EWCs’ vision, mission, and values.

·        Valid work permit
