Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Health and Society

A permanent, fulltime, position is available at the Institute of Health and Society for an Associate Professor within the field of Global Health. 

We seek candidates with a medical degree or other relevant health education who have extensive research experience in global health on issues that can include, but are not limited to, maternal health, children's health, reproductive health, and health equity. Experience with global health policy- and health system research in low-income countries are advantageous.

Associate professors divide their time equally between research and teaching. The person appointed will lead and initiate research, supervise researchers, participate in teaching students and research fellows and undertake duties in connection with examinations, as well as undertaking administrative tasks as required by the prevailing regulations. 

The successful applicant will have a plan for development of her/his research, and for acquiring externally funded research projects. High quality of research, and publishing in peer-reviewed international journals is expected. The applicant is asked to describe his/her research profile, with respect to strategic plans and existing research at the institute/department.

• Doctoral degree in the academic field concerned or equivalent expertise, and relevant research experience.
• Educational competence will count positively. Applicants who do not have documented basic university pedagogical competence must acquire this within two years from appointment.
• Documentation of qualifications in dissemination, management and administration will count positively. 
• Good communication skills both written and oral in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) are a prerequisite for performing all the tasks associated with the position. 
• Extensive research experience in global health

Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language at the time of appointment are given a deadline of two years to learn Norwegian. 

The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:                                                                In the ranking of competent applicants, the whole range of qualifications shall be considered, assessed and explicitly ascribed weight. Particular emphasis will be attached to applicants' scientific publications during the past five years and that are closely related to the area in which the post is advertised.
