VP Sustainability
We are looking for candidates to be responsible for securing that FREYR Battery delivers on our business-critical goal of producing green batteries as opposed to todays’ market offerings of coal-based batteries, and hence enabling the needed energy transition in global transportation and energy systems.

The person who takes on this role will be responsible for building our sustainability team to deliver on this promise through engaging with the business in the global supply chain, the construction projects locally, the operations locally, the international customer and investor dialogues, securing the reporting of non-financial data according to customer, EU and New York Stock Exchange standards, the establishment of recycling solutions, negotiating Joint-venture business agreements across the value chain and in driving the global thought leadership together with Top Management for green battery regulations and requirements.


JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced sustainability leader who can further develop and implement the sustainability strategy critical to FREYR Battery’s business proposition.

The candidate must be able to build and lead a strong team and work closely with key business leaders across the company. As a start-up being listed on the New York Stock Exchange the company needs to establish and implement sustainability goals, standards, policies, procedures, and processes according to the business strategy and the sustainability team needs to engage with their competencies in supporting the business in this implementation as well as in due diligence activities, transparent and timely data collection and reporting of results. As Freyr Battery is building the business starting with operations from a pilot plan in 1H 2022, the first sustainability report, which will be produced by the sustainability team, is planned for Q1 2023.

VP Sustainability is reporting to EVP HR, Sustainability and Communication.
The VP Sustainability will also engage externally on behalf of the company in Sustainability dialogue with customers, investors, regulators, politicians and multilateral organisations and NGOs.

Main tasks include:
Develop, implement and lead;

  • Our Sustainability Team and our sustainability strategy across the environmental and social issues relevant for FREYR
  • The sustainability functional and technical policies, processes, procedures, KPIs, controls and data collection mechanisms
  • A sustainability communication and reporting strategy and system internally and externally including relevant ESG rankings
  • Due Diligence of sustainability and governance compliance across the value chain (suppliers, partners, customers)
  • Analysis, policy development and external communication on key environmental and social issues for the company

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

  • 10 years’ experience working with sustainability issues
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leading a team
  • Experience in building sustainability into the management system of a company
  • Proven capabilities in developing and implementing sustainability strategies
  • Experience in external communication with smaller and larger groups
  • Minimum education at Bachelor level
  • English skills written and oral necessary


Advantageous:

  • Particular knowledge in climate change and energy systems beneficial
  • Norwegian language beneficial but not necessary
  • Technical training from chemicals beneficial but not necessary

WHAT WE OFFER
We offer the right candidate an important role in developing Norway's first battery cell production facilities. Energy storage is an important key to the world's switch to a sustainable, green economy. Freyr is a frontrunner in Europe's rush to build capacity in battery production. A shift from fossil fuel to electricity-from-renewables could deliver 75 - 90% of the CO2 emission reductions required.
