The Tumor-Host Biology research group of Tor Erik Rusten seeks a lab assistant in a 100 % position for 8 months (1.4.21 - 31.12.21). We use the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster to model cancer biology and unravel the mechanisms relevant to tumor-host biology including tumor-microenvironment and somatic tissue interaction. This includes physiological effects to tumor presence with metabolic alterations and organ wasting. To do so, the group employs a broad and multidisciplinary approach of advanced Drosophila genetics, proteomics and proteomics, metabolomics, RNASeq, electron microscopy, confocal and superresolution microscopy, and detailed cell biology studies. As one of the six members of CanCell Centre of Excellence focusing on unraveling mechanisms of tumor growth support situated at the Institute of Cancer Research with 350 employees, we enjoy a strong academic environment for Cancer Research.
As a lab assistant, you will keep fly stocks healthy and available in the lab. Approximately 50% of the time is allocated to join the active research team to part take in execution of experiments. The position is ideal for a biology student contemplating a career in experimental biology/molecular biology/medicine.
