The Senior Engineer – Power Cables for Offshore Wind will be part of the Engineering Department and report directly to SVP Engineering. The position is located at Aker HQ in Fornebu, Oslo.

Candidates must already be resident in Europe and be willing to relocate to Norway to be eligible to apply.

The Role

As our Senior Engineer – Power Cables for Offshore Wind you will have the opportunity to play a key role in the industrialization of the emerging deep water offshore wind power industry. Tasks and responsibilities will lie within the early-stage development activities, all the way through to final project completion, and wind farm operation.

You will:

• have a key role and responsibility for defining the wind power plant array and transmission power cable design
• cover all relevant phases from concept, detailed design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning
• manage interfaces with other engineering disciplines throughout project developments across international project teams
• interface with cable suppliers, installation contractors, HVAC and HVDC power system equipment suppliers, etc.
• keep abreast of the latest developments for power cable equipment and associated auxiliary systems
• participate in development and qualification activities together with partners, suppliers, research organizations and universities

Who are you?

You have:

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• 7+ years of experience from the cable industry, submarine or renewables would be an advantage  
• a general overview of the international power cable manufacturing industry and relevant suppliers
• commercial awareness and experience with supplier negotiations and follow-up.
• strong knowledge of HVAC and HVDC power cable design and technology, both for onshore and subsea application.
• knowledge of dynamic power cable system analysis is an advantage
• demonstrated skills in the use and application of industry norms, internationally acknowledged guidelines and standards (IEC, Cigre, DNVGL).
• experience in performing electrical and thermal analysis of power cable cross-sections using modern FEA software.
• knowledge of power cable qualification, routine and commissioning testing according to relevant standards.
• excellent communication skills in English. Nordic and other languages are considered a plus
