Specialist - High power physics

N2 Applied works with plasma physics both from basic research and industrial applications. Through cooperation with leading universities and research institutes, N2 Applied is in the leading edge of understanding plasma physics and developing new concepts for laboratory trials. Industrial applications are targeted on a wide range focused on renewable energies, and this is achieved with internal efforts in collaboration with international actors.

We are currently looking for a specialist within plasma and high power physics who can help bridge the gap between basic research and application on a product base. You will be the link between N2 Applied and universities by guiding their work to produce knowledge applicable on a commercial scale. You will be part of an ambitious R&D team working internationally with universities, research institutions and plasma equipment providers.


Technical education at M.Sc or Ph.D level, or equivalent through relevant experience, covering one or more of the following fields:

  • High power electrical engineering
  • Plasma physics
  • Physical properties of high temperature materials: gases and plasma
  • Electromagnetic properties of gases
  • Theoretical physics

Desired experience

Workshop and industry experience within welding technology, plasma cutting, control systems, high power electronics or electrical power source.

Practical experience in research, engineering or process design

Relevant competence from industry or research institutes

Statistical planning and experimental research

Data and root cause analysis 


Good at practical and theoretical problem solving

Academic creativity and polytechnic interest

Self-motivated and sustainable attitude to problem solving

Ability, interest and will to acquire new knowledge

Other expectations:

Fluent written and spoken Norwegian and English 

Some travelling must be expected

N2 Applied’s mission is to fundamentally improve global food production by increasing yield and reducing emissions. N2 Applied enables farmers to produce their own fertiliser using slurry or digestate, air, and electricity.

N2 Applied is a Norwegian technology company. It is currently pre-commercial company in the pilot phase. N2 Applied has an international team with various expertise from agriculture, technical engineering, business development and sustainability. The company has its head office in Oslo/Asker and a test centre outside of Kongsberg in Svene (Norway), and branches in Wageningen(Netherlands) and York/Edinburgh (UK).

N2 Applied has developed a technology that enables local production of fertiliser from liquid organic substrates such as slurry or digestate with air and electricity. The technology adds nitrogen from the air into the liquid substrate and increases the nitrogen content. The reaction stops the loss of ammonia losses and reduces emissions, making it an efficient and sustainable fertiliser, and creating a more circular farm system. N2’s scalable process enables fertiliser production to be re-distributed to the end-user, the farmer –cutting long and expensive value chains, and reduces the need for chemical fertiliser production based on fossil gas or coal. The solution also provides on-farm emission reductions in terms of reduced emissions of methane and ammonia, as well as odour.
