Helly Hansen seeks a technical performance designer for its Mountain category. In this position you will be responsible for designing a wide range core outdoor pieces which includes: 3L garments, down and insulated jackets, stretch woven, and technical lifestyle. We are seeking an innovative and collaborative designer with a who can design for a global market with a future thinking and sustainable mindset. 

As the brand trusted by professionals, our design philosophy is built on consumer insights and collaboration from our partnerships with professionals ranging from Search and Rescue organizations around the world, mountain guides, and brand ambassadors. 

Creative direction and line planning

  • Deliver creative and industry-leading product design. Bringing to market innovative, premium, technical and lifestyle products that drive sales to meet HH strategy.
  • Comprehensive trend and market knowledge, keeping up-to-date with emerging technical and general trends relevant for your category.
  • Execution of individual designs and collections appropriate to product and design brief. Creation of high-quality design packages during design process.
  • To collaborate with the design team cross categories, ensuring a unified direction.
  • User centric design, expertise understanding of target user.

Design Development

  • To design products according to allocation, brief, timelines, company quality standards and certification standards
  • To design original products in accordance with HH product philosophy, seasonal briefs and category specific requirements and expectations
  • Contribute in the critique process for construction, function and sizing, for prototypes and sales sample, and pre-production sample on allocated styles
  • To produce and update drawings and tech packs according to technical specifications rules, area of responsibility.
  • Drive collaboration with experts/athletes/professionals to test materials, construction and garments for insights and improvements on designs and ensure quality
  • To design to cost target through understanding of materials and constructions with support from the development team.

 Other

  • To actively prepare, plan for and do traveling necessary for the execution of allocated products
  • Contribute to your own training and development including attending appraisal meetings. Your manager will assist you by maintaining a planned approach to agreeing your personal targets which will reflect the needs of the business.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met in respect to completion of all designs and input needed on the product development and project or seasonal critical path calendar.

Essential Qualifications

A degree in Design or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Proven experience in a product design role, ideally in the outdoor apparel industry.
  • Proven track record of delivering commercially successful collections, ideally to the outdoor apparel market.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present concepts in a persuasive manner.
  • Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses.
  • Strong ability to prioritize work and resources based on short- and long-term need.
  • Advanced knowledge of current fabric technologies and trends.
  • Exceptional CAD and illustration skills to creating and visualise ideas.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Strong knowledge of textile and material construction and properties.
  • Strong knowledge of product costs and impact of design.

Other requirements

International travel will be required to assist with design inspiration, market research and to factories in Europe and the Far East.
