The Role

This is an exciting role in the heart of the hedge fund industry. We are a hedge fund incubator dedicated to cutting cost and lowering barriers to entry for professional hedge funds. We offer an all-inclusive platform for fund managers who wish to set-up and manage their own hedge fund. The turnkey platform includes fund formation, legal and regulatory infrastructure, trading systems and back office support. This enables future fund managers to focus on their investors and fund performance, leaving all other aspects of the fund to us. Since 2018, this award-winning platform also tailors for the latest financial asset class: crypto funds.

We are looking for a lawyer to join the Legal Department to support our hedge fund platform, investment management and brokerage business. You will be working in an international environment, primarily on our key products – Malta and Cayman funds trading everything from standard financial instruments to crypto assets. Our business in expanding rapidly and we need a proactive business-oriented lawyer that will provide support to both our financial services and commercial processes.

The role will give you a broad insight into the fund industry in different jurisdictions and opportunity to support our business worldwide. You will work closely with our clients but also provide advisory to leadership teams in our organisation. Tasks will include:

·        Drafting offering documents and ancillary documentation necessary to set up a new fund as well as documenting changes to existing funds.

·        Providing guidance to Fund Managers with respect to their fund prospectus and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

·        Developing and managing AKJ platform precedent documents.

·        Liaising with financial regulators in Norway, UK, Malta and Cayman Islands and implementing regulatory requirements into AKJ’s existing legal framework.

·        Assisting directors of the funds and other relevant parties to ensure AKJ funds and AKJ investment management/brokerage perform their obligations under the law and under the relevant regulatory regimes.

·        Monitoring legal and regulatory developments.

·        You may also be involved in other legal issues including support in the development of the AKJ’s products and services, drafting and reviewing commercial agreements, corporate documentation, employee contracts, administering group documentation.

Candidate Background

·        Master’s degree in law preferably from a renowned common law university

·        Ideally a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience

·        An interest in financial services industry and curiosity for blockchain technology

·        Experience or knowledge from one or more of the following will be advantageous: a range of commercial contracts, financial regulations, securities laws, corporate activities

·        Willingness and ability to quickly learn new areas of law

·        Ability to take ownership and work efficiently under high pressure and tight deadlines

·        Problem solving and solution-oriented mindset with good analytical abilities

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

·        International experience

·        Coordination of high-level external legal specialists
