Senior Researcher at Centre for Intercultural Communication, (SIK)

Centre for Intercultural Communication (SIK) at VID Specialized University in Stavanger, Norway, is looking for a senior researcher in a full-time permanent position within the fields of migration and diversity. The position includes participation in ongoing projects, development and management of new projects, and some supervision and teaching.


About SIK

SIK is one of three strategic research centres at VID Specialized University. The centre focuses specifically on the themes of migration, diversity and civil society development, and collaborates closely with the other units at VID. SIK relies entirely on externally funded projects, and the current project portfolio includes both research projects, consultant assignments as well continuing education courses and programmes.


Responsibilities

You will participate in ongoing projects at the Centre. The current project portfolio in the areas of migration and diversity primarily deals with labour market integration among newly arrived refugees and intercultural competence among public service providers.  

You will furthermore initiate and lead major research projects funded by, for example, the Research Council of Norway, the European Research Council (ERC) and/or Horizon Europe.

You will be expected to participate in the development of the Centre's research strategies and encourage research colleagues to develop new and innovative projects that cover a wide range of topics related to migration, diversity and civil society development. Some teaching, supervision of junior researchers and administrative work must be expected.

You will be a member of the Migration, Religion and Intercultural Relations (MIGREL) research group at VID.


We are searching for someone with
  • a PhD degree in a relevant discipline
  • research experience in the areas of migration and diversity
  • experience in initiating and leading externally funded research projects
  • a broad range of contacts in relevant academic communities
  • publications as first author in internationally recognised journals
  • very good written and oral communication skills in English

Knowledge of Norwegian will weigh in your favour, but is not a requirement for the position.

General criteria for appointment to research posts are given in FOR 2006-02-09 no 129  (https://lovdata.no/SFE/forskrift/2006-02-09-129) Regulations for appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

The appointee will have rights and duties according to the prevailing provisions for academic positions, and should expect changes in organisation and work responsibilities.

  • skills in initiating and leading projects and who in this capacity can help drive forward the development of the priority areas and research activity of SIK
  • ability to work meticulously and independently
  • ability to work with different projects simultaneously
  • good interpersonal, coordination and collaboration skills
