What does a regular day for a DevOps engineer look like?

Every morning you check our Grafana dashboards to look for abnormalities in the last 12 hours on the Ease Live platform. If there is a team- or product meeting you attend it and give input and listen in to what is in the pipeline. You work with our different external and internal products and services to fix and tune the deployments in various ways, either to reduce cost, improve resilience, or integrate a pipeline to push out a new version through Github/CircleCI. You work together with the developers on integration issues with AWS, debug various application issues that causes parts of our apps to not work as intended.

Our platform is dynamic and built for resilience and scaling in mind. Extensive use of EC2 Spot instances is used to reduce cost, and most of our deployments are stateless and running in containers.. Focus on quick recovery and no-downtime-upgrades. Dynamic scaling is important for us to meet the high-volume traffic that occurs on Ease Live during live events.

Currently we are improving our logging solutions with better searching and trending capabilities, observability into our platform with more metrics, reduce hosting cost by optimizing workloads and always improving our deployment pipeline.

What are you required to do?

DevOps engineers at Sixty work on continually improving our operation and hosting of Ease Live. Ease Live makes on-air graphics for live sports events become clickable and interactive on any connected device.

At Sixty you will also be working with your team to improve developers workflow with CI/CD processes, to ensure rapid development and deployment is possible. Some of the technologies and challenges you will encounter are Docker containers, AWS, Node.js, SocketCluster, CircleCI, Terraform, automation, deployment strategies, scaling services to a global audience, monitoring, cloud management. 

Besides having a talent for understanding how operations and technology works, you must have passion for learning and evolving your skills. Your foundation of skills is important, but more importantly is your ability to learn new skills.

Your strengths

• Experience with AWS
• Experience with Kubernetes or AWS ECS
• Experience with Terraform (and/or) other infrastructure as code tools
• Good understanding of basic protocols, like: HTTP, SSL, DNS, WebSockets, TCP/IP
• Experience with operations / hosting, plus if you have experience with high-volume environments
• DevOps mindset, familiar with version control and CI/CD
• Linux, scripting, deployment and management automation
• Ability to read and understand code
• Experience with MySQL and Redis
