Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Education, Arts and Sports (FLKI) has an available Postdoctoral fellowship position in the Global Science Opera. (Duration: 2 years). 

The postdoctoral fellow will be employed by the Department for Arts Education, and associated scientifically with the CASE center. CASE is home to Research & Development projects at the intersection of arts, science and creative education. We develop and implement new knowledge about creative, arts-and-inquiry-based, and embodied learning processes within the complete spectrum of the educational field. We furthermore provide, support and promote innovative solutions to the challenges faced by education by initiating and implementing R&D projects in the fields of creativity, arts and science and at the intersection of these fields.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with data sources which have been, and are being, collected in a series of international initiatives. The fellow will be able to choose between a purely qualitative database or one which includes both qualitative and quantitative data. Data will be analyzed within the Global Science Opera and related Research & Development initiatives funded by the EU (Horizon 2020, Erasmus+). Scientifically, the work will be done in a Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) context.

The application for the postdoctoral fellowship should contain specific research questions which the candidate would be interested in conducting research on within the following areas in arts-education:

  • Research activity focusing on the arts' roles in interdisciplinary educational contexts and specifically in the Global Science Opera.
  • Describing creativity in the Global Science Opera as an exemplification of a global classroom.
  • Technological innovation in the Global Science Opera as an exemplification of a global classroom.
  • Describing impacts of cross-cultural interaction in the Global Science Opera as an exemplification of a global educational context.

The proposed Post-doc position will be dedicated to data analysis and publication of results about the Global Science Opera as an exemplification of a global classroom. Scientifically, these will be done in a Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) context by relying on the RRI foundation of the European projects which FLKI researchers are/were responsible for the implementation of in Norway and globally. The postdoc fellow will have access to data generated in the following three contexts, all of which are coordinated at FLKI campus Stord: 1. The EU Erasmus+ project GSO4SCHOOL. 2. The EU Erasmus+ project CASE. 3. The Global Science Opera (www.globalscienceopera.com (http://www.globalscienceopera.com)). 

The position lasts for two years from 01.01.2021


Key duties- and responsibilities:
  • Data analysis
  • Leading role in authoring 5 peer-reviewed publications.
  • Team member of the Global Science Opera and the EU Erasmus+ project GSO4SCHOOL.

Qualifications:

 

  • PhD in a field relevant for the postdoctoral fellowship, as for example (but not limited to) arts education (e.g. music, drama, dance, visual arts, film), ICT in education, science education, general education. (The applicant must have a PhD or on the application date have received a confirmed date for the defense).
  • Documentation of portfolio of peer-reviewed publications whereof at least one as main author.
  • Experience with international networks.
  • High-level proficiency in English is required.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is an added value.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of European Union (or other multi-national) Research & Development initiatives is an added value.
     

Other qualifications:

The position as Postdoctoral Fellow is paid according to the Government's salary regulation, in position code 1352 - Postdoctoral fellowship

The Department of Arts Education has 70 employees in Bergen, Sogndal and Stord. The academic field covers music, drama and applied theatre and arts and crafts. The department offers education at bachelor, master, one year programmes and continuing and further education levels. The department also provides education in its academic field in nursery and primary/lower secondary level teacher training and contributes to the faculty?s PhD programme Education and Didactic Practices.

The department aims to be in the forefront of school and professionally oriented competence development in its academic fields, and to be a driving force in the development of arts education at a high level and with a clear relevance for the fields of nursery, school and culture.
