Test Automation Engineer

Time and Date AS is the company behind timeanddate.com, the top-ranked website on time and time zones. We offer free online services that our users can rely on, and we are now looking for a resourceful and experienced test engineer who can identify potential issues in our software and make sure our products are bug-free and run smoothly.

What needs testing? 

You will be responsible for testing all of our services, which include calendars, as well as date and astronomical calculators. Most of the frontend code is developed using JavaScript, and the backend code mainly uses the C and PHP programming languages. Knowledge in C, PHP, or JavaScript is not a requirement, but a bonus. In addition to strengthening the quality of our services by testing for bugs and ensuring expected behavior, we are also interested in verifying the accuracy of our calculations compared to a reference result. This is to make sure that future enhancements to our algorithms don't undermine the high level of accuracy we currently have.

We expect you to be familiar with the following testing tools

This is a new position in our company, so we need someone who can build it from the ground up together with us. You will therefore be expected to have enough experience and knowledge to suggest a procedure for testing and test scheduling as well as creating templates and structures for test plans, test cases, and test executions. Some of your responsibilities will be:

• Zephyr or similar test management tools
• Selenium, Cypress, or similar browser automation tools
• Acceptance testing/behaviour testing and unit testing tools like Cucumber, CUnit, and Robot Framework
• Automated test executions in Jenkins
• Visual regression testing tools

What you will do

• Design and implement automated tests to help uncover issues
• Perform actual testing and failure analysis
• Analyze and report outcome of automated testing
• Discover defects and present test summary reports to product owner
• Create and execute test cases and verify results
• Design and implement frameworks and infrastructure for automated testing
• Review reported complaints and assess their validity

Required qualifications

• Computer Science degree or other equivalent university degree (3+ years)
• Knowledge of programming in at least one programming language
• Experience with running software testing independently
• Excellent knowledge of creating test plans and cases

Preferred qualifications

• ISTQB Certification
• You can read and understand what the code is doing in several popular programming languages (like C, JavaScript)
• You can automate testing using a programming language (like JavaScript, Python, Java)
