VHDL Developer/Senior VHDL Developer (FPGA)

As (Senior) VHDL Developer at Dolphitech, your responsibility is to design, implement and maintain firmware for FPGAs in new and existing products. You will be part of a cross-functional scrum team that makes products based on Dolphitech’s system platform. Your role will be to know and understand the system platform, create firmware that makes the most of that platform and help the rest of your team to create great products with that platform and firmware.

Dolphitech’s core technology is a patented, high-resolution ultrasonic matrix sensor. The sensor produces huge amounts of raw data, so efficient signal processing and high-speed data communication will be central challenges. You will also work closely with hardware designers and have an influence on new hardware generations.

Our system platform, dolphicam2, consist of mechanics, electronics, FPGAs and of course the ultrasound sensor. The FPGA’s are key components in controlling the electronics, performing signal processing, and managing data flow and communication in the platform.

You must have long experience with VHDL and FPGAs, either through work or education, a passion for firmware design, electronics, and low-level programming. An interest in physical sciences will make your work easier. You must understand, or be keen to learn, scientific computing principles like filtering, resampling etc.

You will have colleagues from all continents and must be comfortable with English as working language.

Depending on personal interests, you will get the opportunity to lead or participate in research and development projects with academic partners and customers.

Core Responsibilities 

• Specify, design and implement FPGA-designs in VHDL.
• Maintain and improve existing FPGA-designs and VHDL code base
• Collaborate with hardware and software designers to realize good system designs

Required Qualifications

• Master of Science or Bachelor of Science within electronics and FPGA
• In-depth knowledge of FPGA architecture and tools (e.g. Intel/Altera)
• Long experience with VHDL programming for FPGA.
• Understanding of signal processing in FPGA
• Understanding of communication protocols like LVDS, high-speed transceivers, UART, SPI etc.
• Experience with or knowledge about FPGA SoC architecture (ARM processor subsystem and AMBA AXI bus)

Optional Qualifications

• Experience with C, Python, Tcl, Synopsys design constraints and shell scripting
• Experience in building and customizing Linux kernels and distributions
• Knowledge about writing code for Atmel/Microchip microcontrollers.
• Electronic circuit design – High-speed-low-noise design & digital design and communication
• Embedded programming (ARM processor, Linux kernel, C/C++)
• General software development (C, C++, C#)
