A PhD position is available in the Autophagy group at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IMB), University of Oslo (https://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/research/groups/autophagy/), which is part of the Centre for Cancer Cell Reprogramming (CanCell) and affiliated with the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital (OUH). The successful candidate will be employed by OUH with work place at IMB. 

Brief description of the project and activities:

The position is associated with the project "Unraveling the role of mitophagy in cancer development" funded by the Southern and Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority for 3 years. The objective of the project is to characterize the molecular mechanisms involved in mitophagy and their role in tumor development. The project will involve a range of methods, including genome editing, cloning and lentivirus production, generation of stable cell lines, live and confocal microscopy, protein interaction assays, Western blot analysis and work with zebrafish. The successful candidate should have experience with some of these techniques, as well as data analysis and presentation of results.

Qualifications:

MSc in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry or medicine.
Research experience in cell and molecular biology methods as indicated above.
Good presentation skills and experience in writing scientific papers.
Capability to design and perform experiments in a creative way.
Good organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
