Plan International Norway is looking for a Senior Grants Controller. The position is placed in the department Finance and Business Support, which consists of 13 engaged and professional colleagues. In addition to the team of Grant Controllers, Finance and Business Support is also responsible for IT, Accounting and General Services. This position will work closely with the Program and Influencing Department.

Main Responsibilities of the position

1. Maintain overall financial responsibility for nominated part of Plan International Norway’s grant and project portfolio

  • Quality control budgets and financial reports prior to submission to institutional donors, to ensure that they are in line with donor requirements and internal instructions
  • Undertake mission to Plan Country Offices to support, build capacity, and monitor compliance and financial risks in projects supported through Plan International Norway
  • Prepare for and follow up audits

2. Provide help-desk support and capacity building for Plan International staff on financial and administrative aspects related to grants from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ECHO, EU, etc.

  • Develop and update procedures, guidelines, tools, etc. related to the financial and administrative aspects of grants from these donors
  • Identify needs and provide trainings and other capacity building support to Plan International Norway and Plan Country Office staff as relevant
  • Assist the Head of Institutional Partnership in the Programme and Influencing Department with due diligence procedures 
  • In collaboration with the Head of Institutional Partnerships, review grant agreements prior to signature to ensure that they are acceptable for Plan, and propose adjustments if necessary
  • Assist with developing budgets, financial management, preparing financial reports, and managing audits for any grants from these donors under direct management by Plan International Norway staff.

The role will be responsible for giving relevant input to strategic goals and to develop action plans within area of expertise and responsibility.

Do you have the following profile?

  • Relevant education, preferably Master's Degree
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience
  • Thorough understanding of sound financial management of grants for long-term and emergency programmes funded by institutional donors preferably including ECHO and the EU
  • Strong understanding of anti-corruption systems/laws
  • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work within a project organised structure
  • Experience in providing trainings and capacity building is an asset
  • Excellent writing, administrative and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Aptitude for creativity and learning new ways of doing things to remain up to date on current trends
  • Knowledge and understanding of donor requirements, financial principles, and ability to represent Plan International Norway as relevant to external audiences
  • Fluent in Norwegian, excellent communication skills in English and French
Some travel will be required.
