Do you want to be part of taking the Expedition segment up to a new level in the Explorer fleet in our quest to be the World Leader in exploration travel?
To fulfill this ambition we are looking for highly motivated science coordinators to be part of our expedition teams.
The Science coordinators report to the Expedition leader onboard each ship, and to chief scientist ashore.
Duties and responsibilities
- Oversee the onboard science program.
- Work with the Assistant Expedition leader to ensure the lectures, use of the onboard science center, guest interaction, sample and data collection provide maximum and relevant education and entertainment value for the voyage.
- Give briefings on the Hurtigruten Science program including how guests can get involved.
- Facilitate Citizen science projects with the relevant onboard Expedition Guide.
- Manage the onboard Science Center, service and maintain all equipment.
- Ensure the Science is clean at all times.
- Ensure all (including third party) scientific equipment is working correctly.
- Provide requested data to third party science institutions.
- Work with on board guest scientists to provide maximum education and entertainment value.
- Send end of voyage reports to the Chief Scientist and Expedition Leader.
- Communicate with your reliver to facilitate a smooth and effective handover.
- Deliver destination-specific lectures based on your area of expertise.
- Prepare a short biography.
- Assist with general onboard day-to-day duties.
- Undertake other duties as requested by Expedition Leader.
- Inform the Expedition Leader if any procedures or documentation needs to be changed.
Qualifications
- Undergraduat degree level in science (biological, geologial)
- Essential to speak fluent English
- Desirable to speak fluent German
- Health sertificate for sea (not needed before applying)
- Basic safety training (STCW) (not needed before applying)
- Crowd and crisis management (not needed before before applying)
