Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Education, Arts and sports has one available position (temporary for one year) as Associate Professor within pedagogy in Kindergarten teacher education

The position will be linked to the Department of Pedagogy, Religion and Social Studies at our Bergen campus with a special focus on supporting pedagogy in kindergarten teacher education and to stimulate internationalisation in the Department in the milieu of pedagogy. The person appointed will also be associated to KINDknow - research centre.

Workplace is Bergen.


Duties and responsibilities:

We are seeking applicants who will be able to make a contribution towards a strengthening of internationalisation an international collaboration in education and research. Furthermore tasks will be to encourage staff and students mobility and support intercultural pedagogy and education for diversity in curriculum and education, as well as in research projects. This will involve the following:

  • Support staff and leaders to ensure a research based and international curriculum in pedagogy
  • Teaching and supervising regular as well as international programs on relevant topics (could be at bachelor, master or PhD level)
  • Enhance internationalisation in staff by supporting publication processes, web-communication and editorial work
  • Welcoming and mentoring exchange students at PhD and masters level and guest researchers
  • Project development and project maintenance related to Asian and European collaboration, as for example the well- established China - Norway research and student exchange program at FLKI
  • Development of new international courses and programs that support strategic goals of FLKI in cooperation with staff
  • Research to support the area with a special effort to contribute to comparative research
  • Organising conferences, symposiums and eventually summer school
  • Support processes towards excellency in education and curriculum in kindergarten teacher education

Qualifications:

The applicant must have a doctoral degree within the field of education and be experienced in research, teaching and curriculum development. The applicant should have knowledge in one or more core areas of pedagogy in early childhood education (e.g. play, learning, uriculumstudies, teambased leadership, transition kindergarten school, cultural formation). The applicant should have experience with relevant international networks, project management or administrative experience. The applicant must have excellent oral and written command of English. If the applicant is not fluent in Norwegian or scandinavian languages, the applicant should work systematically to develop an oral and written command of Norwegian. Knowledge of other languages is considered an advantage.

It is expected that the applicant has the ability to communicate and engage in students, colleagues and partners, to taking initiatives and fulfilling responsibility, having a positive attitude and being flexible, being systematic and trustworthy and being ambitious on behalf of organization, colleagues, students and self.

The position as Associate Professor is paid according to the Government's salary regulation, in position code 1011 - Associate Professor
