Post-doctor in Citizenship and Disability studies

A fulltime post-doctoral research fellowship is available at VID Specialized University within the Faculty of Health Studies.  The fellowship is part of The Citizen's Project (CitPro): Everyday Citizenship for Persons in Vulnerable Situations co-led by Professors Ruth Bartlett and Inger Marie Lid and funded by VID Specialized University research excellence initiative.

The stipulated length for this position is 3 years.


The profile

The main task of the fellowship will be to work independently on a topic related to the CitPro project. This may include topics related to persons with intellectual and /or cognitive disabilities such as dementia, everyday citizenship, cultural citizenship, service innovation, spirituality, and inclusive research. The person appointed will also be expected to participate in the coordination of project activities in collaboration with Professors Bartlett and Lid and other members of the CitPro team

The position will be part of the Centre of Diaconia and Professional Practice but will also cooperate with the Faculty of Health Studies. The work place will be located in Oslo or Stavanger.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.


Qualifications and personal abilities

A postdoctoral research fellowship is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

Requirements for the position:

  • Doctoral degree awarded at time of application date
  • PhD thesis and/or peer-reviewed publications in a relevant discipline (e.g. health sciences, welfare-social sciences, disability, and humanities
  • Project description relevant to CitPro
  • Disability/dementia as empirical field
  • Norwegian speaking skills if conducting field work in Norway
  • Theoretically interested and skilled
  • Organisational and project management skills
  • Technical and social medial skills (e.g. podcasting)
  • Skills and expertise in qualitative research

 

The following are also desirable:

  • Ability and interest to work well with others
  • Experience with relevant research and development work
  • Ability to carry out and complete project-related tasks

Project description

The applicant must submit a project description of up to 3,000 words (reference list not included) where he/she accounts for:

  • the chosen topic
  • motivation for wanting to do the project
  • understanding of current knowledge related to the topic
  • research question and objectives
  • theoretical underpinning for the project
  • ideas for research methods
  • a progress plan for the various parts of the research project must be part of the description

 

The project description must be written in English or a Scandinavian language. VID focuses on strengthening the cooperation between international educational- and research institutions, and expects applicants to indicate plans for studies abroad during the appointed period.

Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. Emphasis will be given to the relevance and quality of the project description, PhD Thesis, quality of the Master's Thesis or thesis at second degree level , publications or research and development experience, or R&D-experience in the last 3-5 years. VID will also do a reference check on relevant applicants, and we ask that the application includes 2-3 names of people we can contact for a professional reference.

Emphasis will also be placed on the interview with the applicant (in person or per skype). The person who is appointed must be loyal to and work in accordance with the aims and values of VID and submit to current laws, regulations, guidelines and agreements applying to the position.

Applicants from non-Scandinavian countries who do not have a university degree from an English-speaking country must submit results from a TOEFL test, with a minimum of 550 points (80 points on the Internet).

A sorting committee will select the applications to be assessed by the expert committee. Please note that applicants not selected for expert assessment will not receive a written evaluation of the project description. The decision of the sorting committee will not be distributed.
