Senior System Engineer in ABAX

An system engineer in ABAX will be part of the DevOps team. As an system engineer you will have responsibility for virtualized environments, infrastructure, networking, backup and other areas to keep our production environment secure and reliable. Our landscape are constantly changing and new technologies with new knowledge are required frequently. We are in a transition from traditional on-prem VM based environment, to cloud based containerized environment (GCP).

• Managing and monitoring all installed systems and infrastructure
• Provisioning of new VM’s, kubernetes clusters and worker nodes via Rancher
• Solid Cloud experience, preferably in GCP / Azure / AKS
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
• Installing, configuring, testing and maintaining operating systems, application software, infrastructure services, firewalls and system management tools
• Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
• Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
• Experience with virtualization, containerization, orchestration and automation.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
• Automating maintenance and deployment tasks for our environments.
  
  

• Cloud experience – Solid experience with cloud services (Google Cloud, Azure or AWS etc.)
• Software knowledge – Firewall rules, NAT, DNS, provisioning of VMs, backup management, Disaster and recovery solutions, add security appliance and rules, setup and maintenance of infrastructure servers.
• Hardware knowledge – On our on-prem environment, you will manage servers, firewalls, SANs, DataDomain and other appliances.
• Multiple environments – DevOps team deliver and maintain development and staging environments to the developers / QA, along with production environments both on-prem and cloud based. Exploring infrastructure as code (IaC) going forward.
• Team collaboration – You will work together with two other system engineers solving common tasks in our environments.
• Problem-solving skills – Troubleshooting are important aspect of this role, so you should have excellent technical and creative problem-solving abilities
• Communication skills – You should also be effective written and verbal communicator, able to prepare reports and documentation and deliver presentations to team leaders and coworkers

Our hosting environments include VM’s with .Net applications deployed via Octopus and deployments to modern kubernetes clusters both in the cloud and on-prem. All kubernetes clusters are managed by Rancher.
