WWF, the world’s largest environmental NGO is searching for an energy expert who is passionate in smartly accelerating the needed global energy transformation, in line with the Paris Agreement goal to limit warming to 1.50C above pre-industrial levels. This position will have the unique opportunity to leverage WWF’s strong local & global convening power to mobilize key actors in business, government, financial institutions and civil society into action for an accelerated phase-out of fossil fuels and the expansion of renewable energy at scale, supported by improved energy efficiency. The ideal candidate shall have an excellent grasp of the multi-faceted challenges of the global energy transition, a network of contacts within the broader climate and energy community, extraordinary management skills & the capacity to think innovatively.   
 
Main function: 
Provides strategic and tactical leadership and coordination in the internal development and external implementation of WWF’s global energy agenda. Provides cohesion and a connection function across the policy and advocacy work, working closely with the different energy work streams.   
 
Required Qualifications:
  • 10 years of work experience in energy and climate. At least 3 years of experience in global energy and climate policy work.
  • Direct experience in one or more of the following areas: (i) coal phase-out (ii) oil and gas transition, (iii) energy efficiency; (iv) energy access and (v) just transition.
  • Master’s Degree in Energy Economics, Energy Finance, Climate Science, Social Science, or related relevant fields.
  • Fluent in English. Other language/s are an asset.
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of global conservation issues, market and business dynamics in the energy field.
  • Proven ability to deliver programmatic work with sharp project and team management.
  • Budget management and fundraising skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in building alliances, initiatives or platforms for change that leverage the capacity of partners.
  • A network of external relationships that extends WWF’s current reach.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, excellent communication and network skills.
  • Ability to interact with senior business and policy leaders.
  • Strong team player and internal organizational networker.
  • Adheres to WWF’s values: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.
 
Contract: 1 year with potential to renewal as a result of joint efforts.  
Location: Open.
