A 3-year PhD Candidate position is available at the Department of Immunology and Transfusion medicine and Department of Pharmacology. The position at Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo will provide a unique opportunity to pursue basic research combinedwith development of innovative approaches. The research group consists of ahandful of young, dedicated and ambitious PhD and postdoctoral levelscientists. Involvement in a number of tightly integrated projects with a highdegree of hands-on involvement is to be expected. We seek a highly motivated, creative and energetic scientist for a 3-year PhD.

Tasks

Our laboratory is studying the cellular processes and molecular interplay underlying the functions of the two most abundant proteins in blood, albumin and IgG. By combining structural and biophysical approaches with cellular and in vivo studies, we use the insights to design novel albumin and antibody molecules with improved functions. This particular project relates to studies of the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) and its relationship with IgG and albumin. The studies will unravel the basic structural and cellular mechanisms that govern the functions of FcRn. Such knowledge offers opportunities for development of novel drug concepts that will secure improved half-life and biodistribution.
