About the position

We have a vacancy for one 2 years PostDoc position at Department of Geoscience and Petroleum (IGP). The work will be a part of the project: GAMES - Geophysics and Applied Mathematics for Exploration and Safe Production, that is supported by The Norwegian Research Council and industry partners. The primary objectives of this project are to generate new understanding and mapping of geologic uplift offshore Norway, new ways of understanding and interpreting continuous geophysical monitoring data using controlled and natural wave-field sources, and to develop robust and accurate methods for 3D elastic imaging of the subsurface.

The position reports to Head of Department.

Job description

Post Doc project: Geomechanics and rock physics.
Laboratory measurements have repeatedly demonstrated significant dispersion in elastic wave velocities of shales between seismic and ultrasonic frequencies. The work aims at improving the physical understanding of this and its implication for field seismic interpretation, through experimental and / or theoretical studies. An area of application may be in the use of controlled laboratory experiments to assess effects of stress changes corresponding to those associated with uplifts.
