Norwegian People’s Aid is seeking a Gender Equality Advisor for our Development and Humanitarian Coperation

The Development and Humanitarian Cooperation-department of Norwegian People’s Aid supports local organisations across the world, in their efforts to create societies where power and resources are distributed more fairly. Our vision is a world with democratic societies with a just distribution of resources, where the growing inequality gaps are closed. NPAs commits to strive for a world free from discrimination based on gender, and where every human being can fulfil their potential unhindered by discriminating laws, economic and social structures. NPA firmly believes that gender equality needs to be at the core of our work. We support local and national organisations to mobilise people, so that the people together can claim their democratic rights and fight inequality in their societies and globally. To this end, NPA also carries out advocacy on these issues in Norway and internationally, in cooperation with our partners and other likeminded international organisations and networks. Our activities in the humanitarian sector aim to support local organisations, who very often are the first responders in a crisis, to become better equipped to provide humanitarian assistance in situations of man-made or natural disasters. The department has programmes in 19 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin-America, and the Middle East and North Africa-region. We currently support more than 200 local organisations and networks that altogether mobilise thousands of people around the world in the struggle for democracy and against growing inequality.

In this position your main responsibilities will be:

  • Provide advisory support to DHC management in developing priorities and plans for implementing the gender equality policy and safeguarding policy.
  • Lead policy and strategy development processes related to gender equality and SGBV.
  • Ensure NPA has a role in advocacy and political processes related to gender equality and SGBV.

To be succesfull in this role you must have:

  • Master’s degree in social or political sciences. Relevant experience can compensate for insufficient education

  • Experience in cooperating with local partners
  • Experience with strategy and policy development

We consider it an advantage if you also have:

In return we offer:

An interesting position where you can contribute and make a lasting change within gender equality globally in our program countries.

An interesting, challenging work environment. You will be covered by our comprehensive insurance scheme. We also offer 5 weeks of annual holiday. Flexible work hours and the possibility to work out one hour weekly.
