The Meteorological Institute is hiring an advisor/senior advisor in the Norwegian Ice Service, within the Forecasting Department in Tromsø for 2 years with possibility of extension. The Ice Service is responsible for sea ice and iceberg mapping in the European Arctic with a focus on Svalbard, and collaborates actively with national and international partners to implement research results into services that are relevant to society.

As part of this work the Ice Service works closely with other departments within the institute, including the Research and Development Department and Development Centre for Weather Forecasting. A large part of the activity of the institute is externally funded, and this position will support applications to external funding agencies, particularly those to the European Commission Horizon 2020 research programme, and administration of funded projects.

The position is part of a European Horizon 2020 project to evaluate requirements for the evolution of Copernicus in the 2020's. Typical activities will be collating input and entering information for project administrative reporting, reviewing and advising on budgets, liaising with internal and external collaborative partners on current projects and future proposals. The position will require good organisational skills.

For this position, the workplace will be Tromsø.

Required qualifications: 

  • masters degree or equivalent experience in Earth science, applied mathematics, or similar
  • proficient in writing and speaking English
  • good team-working skills

Additional desired qualifications: 

  • experience with writing and administrating EU Horizon 2020 research proposals with proven success record
  • highly detail-oriented
  • experience with project financial management
  • fluent in Norwegian, or willingness to learn Norwegian

 Conditions: 

  • salary as advisor/senior advisor, from NOK 449.400 - 586.500 pr. year depending on qualification. Higher salary can be negotiated in case the selected applicant has excellent qualifications
  • membership in the governmental pension scheme (2% deducted from gross salary)
  • the first 6 months are mutual trial period
