Institute of Basic Medical Science

A temporary (substitute) position is available at the Department of Molecular Medicine for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Medicine in the subject area of Anatomy. The employment period is for 2 years, up to end of 2020, with an opportunity for extension.

The Department consists of 28 research groups across three divisions (Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology) and brings together wide expertise aiming to understand key biological and pathological processes from cellular to systems levels.

The position is linked to the Division of Anatomy, which consists of nine research groups working on a broad range of topics related to immunology and neuroscience using research techniques ranging from molecular biology and transgenic animal models to functional imaging and computer modelling. The successful candidate will participate in teaching and in exam setting and assessments at all levels, contribute to research, and carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Department of Molecular Medicine. The Division of Anatomy is responsible for teaching all aspects of human anatomy to students in the professional training programs of medicine (majority), nutrition and dentistry, and to students in the PhD and medical research training programs at the Faculty of Medicine. Teaching consists of formal lectures, tuition of learning groups, and practical courses. The latter comprises both histology (microscopy) and macroscopic anatomy (dissection of human bodies and clinical anatomical examination of live models). Candidates must therefore document in their application, and demonstrate during the evaluation process, that they are both qualified and motivated to engage in teaching.

• For Associate Professor: PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in biomedical science
• For Assistant Professor: MD or MSc or equivalent academic qualifications in biomedical disciplines
• Research experience in basic medical sciences
• An MD degree is clearly preferable because of the teaching obligations, but other candidates who can convincingly demonstrate ability and motivation to teach clinically relevant anatomy from the molecular to the macroscopic level will be considered. MDs will be encouraged to continue clinical work in an adjunct position.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language

The successful applicant will have a clear plan for how to manage the teaching responsibilities and for how to engage in research synergizing with ongoing research (methodologically or thematically) in the Division and the Department.

• Ability to enthusiastically communicate teaching topics and scientific topics to the above mentioned student groups as well as to colleagues and laymen

• Salary NOK 586 500 - 713 600 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Associate professor (position code 1011)
• Salary NOK 555 100 - 670 000 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Assistant professor (position code 1009)
