PRIO invites applications for a research administrative position within the Social Dynamics research department. The successful candidate will join PRIO’s management team and assist the Research Director in the development and management of the activities of the Social Dynamics research department.

 The Department Manager will work closely together with the Research Director in the management of the Social Dynamics department, which has an international staff of approximately 25 researchers and a budget of NOK 40 million. The department has a high level of activities and leads a portfolio of 30-35 research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway, the European Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others.

As a Department Manager, you are expected to contribute to the provision of effective infrastructure and managerial routines at PRIO that supports the Institute’s activities. Tasks include:

  • Project Development support, including budget preparations and the identification of calls for proposals
  • Project Management, including following up on contractual obligations and deadlines
  • Staff Management and liaising with HR
  • Internal communications with researchers and other support staff
  • External communications, including with international partners and funders
  • Research administration and project work


The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in the social sciences, economics, business administration or humanities, or other relevant fields
  • A Bachelor’s degree combined with several years of relevant experience could be considered
  • Demonstrable experience with project management and funding acquisition, with a strong preference for experience in the field of research grants
  • Experience with national or regional research councils would be considered an advantage
  • Ability to monitor and manage large budgets and to contribute to the preparation of financial reports to the funders
  • Strong ICT skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capacity to work independently as well being a team player
  • Fluency in English (written and oral)
