Job Summary and Responsibilities:

This Post-Doctoral position is available 1 January 2019 to conduct research related to condition monitoring of hydraulic cylinders. The focus of this Post-Doctoral position will be to develop model-based condition monitoring methods to estimate the level of aeration, oxidation, leakage, water content and particle contamination in cylinders. These estimates shall then be combined by using a nonlinear particle filter to provide the end user with a prediction of the cylinder remaining useful life.

The work will require:

  • extensive utilization of sensors and instruments (such as acoustic, vibration, magnetic, etc.) to capture signals emitted from cylinders under testing,

  • extensive post processing of data using signal processing, data fusion, statistics and particle filters

In addition to conducting experiments, the duties of the Post-Doctoral position will include reading and knowing the relevant literature, attending and presenting at scientific meetings, and writing drafts of manuscripts. The successful candidate will be required to work in collaboration with other researchers in and outside the lab as well as travel when required.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Ph.D. graduate within the last two years

  • Submit a curriculum vitae and the contact information of three references,

  • Experience in the fields of condition-based maintenance, instrumentation, statistics, signal processing

  • Publications in the fields of condition-based maintenance, instrumentation, statistics, signal processing

  • Knowledge of routine computational skills used for data analysis and presentation, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, MatLab.

  • Applicants without a PhD thesis written and defended in English must document their English proficiency through one of the following tests with the stated results or better:

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the Paper-based Test (PBT), or 80 on the Internet based Test (iBT)

IELTS - International English Language Testing System, with a result of at least 6.5.

We offer:

  • Salary depending on qualifications within the range NOK 517.700 – 579.300

  • Start date: 1 January 2019

  • Location: Grimstad, Norway
