Mechanical Design Engineer for a high technology company. Start up as soon as possible
Role Summary/Purpose
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for drive the effort to work smarter, improve cycle, reduce defects, increase productivity, ensure design intent matches manufacturing capabilities and keeping equipment maintained and calibrated at our Oslo facility. This position plays a key role in support of manufacturing operations in the production, investment, and future development of pressure sensors to support diverse applications through World Class technology, processes, cross-functional teamwork. The AME leader will be a part of the Advanced manufacturing Engineering team, reporting into the Industrialization leader.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will utilize experience, expertise, analytic thinking and systematic work to solve problems and execute plan in team with other engineers.
Some key responsibilities include:
Design, customize, maintain and improve products, documents and processes.
Perform work according to:
- Government rules and regulations
- Technical standards and regulations
- Business procedures, processes and practices.
- Provide timely communications with the rest of the organization on status of tasks and projects.
- Participate in solving and/or leading quality related issues according to business procedures for handling non-conformances.
- Participate in teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical reviews with engineering team, sharing information, insight and knowledge.
- Establish proper documentation of work performed as well as performing well information hand-over within the organization and team.
- Familiarize with business goals and objectives and adjust own initiative and focus to resolve critical issues for the business.
- Perform GE’s my learning trainings according to learning plan deadlines.
- Perform GE’s Performance Development and create individual development plan together with Manager. Follow through on agreed plan and actively contribute to own development.
- Some customer contact can be expected – technical clarifications and meetings.
Support, mentor and train junior staff.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Responsible for the Manufacturing Engineering support of the Oslo Facility
- Provide technical guidance to ensure business objectives are met
- Lead/participate in design of new manufacturing capabilities/lines
- Drive quality resolutions and improvements
- Statistical process control, evaluation of data
- Development of detailed, efficient manufacturing procedures.
- Drive reduction in cost of quality (scrap and warranty)
- Provide technical leadership & expertise to investigate, initiate and drive the
development, investment, procurement and implementation of equipment &
manufacturing processes
Drive material projects with engineering team
- Improve processes and equipment to enable labor productivity
- Drive & Resource Business Transfer of Work Plans (TOW) (in & outbound)
- Ensure latest Manufacturing technology is applied to Processes
- Lean Advocate in standardizing operations or alignment of Manufacturing Value Stream
- Responsible for NPI program support and leadership from GSC
- Work collaboratively with Technology, Marketing and GSC to meet the site’s NPI objectives
- Provide technical leadership through process until handed over to Manufacturing
- Enable Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test
- Ensure that the site has the tools and equipment for pilot and final production
Qualifications/Requirements:
- MSc/BSc Engineering Mechanical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering
- Demonstrated Experience in efficient implementation of practical, fit for purpose technical
solutions
Desired Characteristics
- At least three years manufacturing experience in an electro-mechanical assembly
operation with a strong technical background - Understanding/experience of technical documentation such as mechanical drawings and product
specification - Formal training in methodology for production improvement, Lean Six Sigma or similar
- Experience in working in SAP Bis One at Advanced level
- Demonstrated desire and willingness to motivate and coach others
- Proven leadership, team building and process management skills
- Experience with high pressure equipment
- Strong attention to detail and highly accurate
- Ability to lead a diverse team towards a goal to fulfill a business commitment
- Ability to work in a team and under high pressure
- Proactive with a flexible attitude
- Ability to work independently
- Previously held technical/leadership positions such as value engineering, manufacturing engineering and/or quality
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as externally
- Organization and time management skills, ability to prioritize and drive multiple programs
- Demonstrated ability to lead process implementation in a team environment
- Experience with High Mix Low Volume production
- Experience with machining, welding, casting, cleaning technologies and test and verification of product
- Experience in prototyping and bringing new products to market
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong Process Orientation
